Every neighborhood and apartment building has its own special tradition when it comes to staging turf wars.

Some use leaf blowers and subwoofers, but in this sibling/neighbor rivalry, nothing outguns the lungs of domesticated animals.

This devoted cat lover has always found comfort and joy in the company of animals. Having grown up with pets, being around them feels like second nature. Now, even as an adult, she spends most of her week at her mom's house just to be near her family's furry companions. It's part of her happiness. Her boyfriend, while also raised with pets, doesn't share the same deep love for them. After six years together and three years of living together, they're facing a furry fork in the road.

She wants to adopt an adult shelter cat, a specific one she's waited six weeks for. But her boyfriend insists it's not the right time because he wants a dog "someday." There's no timeline for this imaginary pup, just a vague future bark blocking a very real purr now. She's tried reasoning, but he won't budge, leading to tension growing and full-on arguments breaking out.

Now she's torn between staying in a relationship where she feels unheard and unfairly compromised, or walking away. With the cat finally available and her partner unwilling to budge, she's wondering if it's time to stop pawsing her dreams and put herself first.

The eternal feline question: to pet, or not to pet? That is the purrplexing question. One moment your cat is flopping dramatically on your lap demanding attention, and the next you're being smacked for daring to touch the royal floof. It's emotional whiplash with whiskers.

Cats live by their own rulebook, one they rewrote while sitting on your keyboard. Tail flick? Might mean "pet me." Might mean "pet me and I sue." Head boop? Definitely a green light. Belly up? That's a trap. Do not engage. Some cats want the scritches 24/7. Others act like you've insulted their lineage if you so much as glance in their direction.

Then there's the timing. Stop petting too soon? Betrayal. Stop petting too late? That's attempted murder, apparently. The line between love and claws is razor-thin and covered in fur.

Still, we live for those moments of pure purrfection. A slow blink, a soft purr, a gentle nuzzle. When your cat decides, on their terms, that you are worthy of affection? That's not just love, it's a meowgical experience.

We're not sure how to break it to you, but we'll do it bluntly, so the pain will not drag on. Here we go: Cats are the best animals ever. Yes, we stand by this fact with full conviction.

Cats are better than quokkas, the seemingly happiest animal on the planet - just because a smile is stuck on your face like a Barbie, doesn't make you so happy. Cats are better than dogs, who wag their tail naively at anyone within a 1-mile radius of them - being that trusting isn't a good sign. Cats are better than sharks, because even if sharks are peak-evolution, prime predators, they can't enjoy a sunbeam like cats do.

So, of course cats are the best. And this is why cat memes are the best. Where else can you find online content that reflects all that's best about cats other than in cat memes? Let's enjoy some fabulous feline funnies to celebrate how cats are better than… anything, really.

As long as their are wholesome hoomans out there who are willing to save stray cats in need, we're going to keep writing about them and giving them the awwpreciation they deserve.

This cute kitten, 'Nisa', went from sick street stray to queen of the sheets. She had it rough in the beginning. In fact, they didn't even know if she was going to make it! She waited in the same spot for someone to notice her, just hoping for some help. One meowrning, it came to her in the form of a kindhearted couple. They admit below that they weren't even looking for a cat, but when the CDS knocks, you answer.

They gave Nisa a second chance at life, and she's taking full advantage of it by adventurously exploring her new home, loafing on countertops, and sleeping in between her pawrents every night. We're pawsitively sure she knows she won the lottery. Read through Nisa's full recovery story by scolling down!

Eventually, we all have to take our pets to the vet for one reason or another.

Sometimes, it's for something serious, and other times, it's because your cat had to go #2 and just didn't want to. That was $600 down the drain.

Every time you go, though, you want to think that the vet has your best interest at heart. They are meowdical professionals. They went through 8 years of grueling studies in order to get their license. They are still human, however. They can also make mistakes. You just have to hope it doesn't happen to you or your purrfect pet.

When it does happen, though, it tends to be expensive. The cat mom in this post was told her kitty needed to have dental surgery, and when they went in for a post-op checkup, a different vet said that the surgery shouldn't have been done in the first place! On top of that, they have no record of the surgery happening, even though it clearly did. Read more below!

Congratulations on making it to Wednesday, fam. You either arrived today hopeful about finishing the rest of the week with pawsitivity, or you're here with us in a grumpy mewd and need some wholesomeness to get through this midweek slump. On days like today, we feel like a cantankerous senior kitty that wants nothing more than just to eat and sleep all day (that's not so different from other days, but that's another story…). But not all senior cats are terrifyingly testy, most are purrfectly sweet, like the one in the story below!

Meet Capri, a 12-year-old senior cat who got a surprise one day from her pawrents… one she didn't ask for. The present was a puppy, and at first, she wasn't so sure how to feel about it. But, she softened, and adopted the corgi puppy like her little brother, and now they refuse to take naps unless they're cuddling together. The pictures of them are pawsitively bursting with cuteness, so scroll down to see them for yourself!

Here at ICHC, we always talk about how it's the cat that adopts the human and not the other way around. We talk about how you don't really get a choice in the matter very often. You walk into a shelter, thinking that you're going to adopt a kitten only to end up with a fluffy senior feline instead. You adopt a regular cat only to find out that she is pregnant and end up adopting her kittens as well. And like the person in this story, you think you're adopting a regular, healthy senior feline only for it to not turn out quite that way.

It's expensive to take care of a sick cat, we know, but we do it anyway, because they are ours, and we love them, and we are willing to do anything for them. But when it's a cat that you just adopted, when you weren't prepared for the responsibility, it could be hard. But it doesn't make it any less true - this cat has clearly adopted you, and that means that there is going to be a way to deal with anything that happens.

If you know anything about cats, then you know they are not like dogs in the sense that all they need is a kind voice and some treats to fall in love. Sure, sure, we know some dogs can be more complicated than that, but usually, they're just looking for love. Cats take a different approach. Some cats don't want to have anything to do with you other than live in your home and run the place like royalty. Some cats might come off like they don't want anything to do with you at first, but actually they're just trying to thug it out until they feel unafraid, and then they just want cuddles and love all the time.

But how do you figure out what kind of cat you're meeting? Well, the number one rule is to not come in too hot. Don't for a head scratch right away, you have to wait for them to come to you.

When it comes to cats, we have just one rule: the chonkier, the better. These lovable loaves aren't just full of fluff. They're full of purrsonality too. Whether they're thudding across the room like tiny tigers or wedging themselves into boxes two sizes too small, chonky cats are walking, meowing proof that every ounce is adorable.

You haven't truly lived until you've watched a chunky feline attempt a "stealthy" pounce, only to plop dramatically mid-hunt for a snack break. They may not be the most graceful, but who needs grace when you've got confidence? These big-bellied beauties know how to strut their stuff, turning every hallway into a catwalk.

A chonky cat in a sunbeam is nature's antidepressant. They're fluffy little footrests, judgmental yet lovable, and somehow always hungry… even after polishing off a full bowl. Are they secretly hoarding snacks? Possibly. Do we care? Absolutely not.

So here's to the floofy units, the hefty hunks, the absolute units of the feline world.

There's something undeniably enchanted about black cats. Mysterious, majestic, and just the right amount of mischievous - these feline familiars have been keeping witches company since before Merlin had a beard. In the wizarding world, black cats aren't just pets - they're trusted companions, magical allies, and occasional troublemakers (looking at you, Crookshanks).

Honestly, if Professor McGonagall ever took a sabbatical, we wouldn't be surprised if a black cat took over Transfiguration class and taught it better. Need a warning before a Slytherin prank? A black cat will sense it. Lost your wand again? They've probably hidden it for fun.

Even today, when so much is happening around the world, when there is drama at every corner, people find the time for the important things. Namely cats. The internet always finds time for cats. Because cats rule the internet - furever and always. And that means, that every once in a while, cats go viral for all kinds of reasons. Just last week, a cat went viral for being hissterically unphotogenic. And before that, a few viral kitties that come to mind are the cat that looks like a teddy bear and Tater Tot - the cute kitty in a cast who had the internet losing it for weeks.

Yet, we don't think that any cat has come close to capturing the hearts of the people on the internet as Wonton. The conversation about Wonton has gone way beyond a few weeks. For months, ever since Wonton got adopted, injured and returned, people have been talking about her, worried about her, hoping that she will make a full recovery, and, of course, wondering who her adoptive parent will be. And today, finally, that question has been answered.

Some household tyrants rule with barking commands, yet this ruthless ruler preferred purrs and meows, weighed less than a bag of flour, and answered to Preston.

Renowned for weaponising bodily functions, the elderly cat judged every human convenience a personal affront, then retaliated with precision.
